11/30/12 Update for E 156th and Beulah Park

Work continues at the 3-1 work area readying the area for the future shaft wall construction.  Light poles have been erected (no lights or power to the site yet), the chain link fence has been attached to the posts and the topsoil has all been pushed into a nice neat pile at the north end of the site.  These "mobilization" tasks will continue for another few weeks until the secant pile (shaft wall construction) work begins, more on this later.

Work continues at the intersection of East 156th and Lakeshore and last through mid December.

Please keep in mind the that sidewalk is still closed on the west side of E 156th due to the ongoing activities withing the fenced in area but will be replaced in the future.  Also there may be short durations of traffic rerouting to allow for construction activities for the safety of the residents and the crews.  Any interruption will be kept short as possible

11/15/12 Update for E 156th and Beulah Park

There will be no work associated with the utility line relocation at the Lakeshore and E 156th intersection tomorrow.

General work at the location of Shaft 3-1 will continue tomorrow.  The short black material that can be seen surrounding the site is know as silt fence.  Silt fence is utilized during many construction projects to limit the migration of sediments created during construction activities from the work area to the surrounding areas.  This material will transmit water through the fabric itself but keeps the sediment contained.

Work will continue at the intersection of East 156th and Lakeshore and last through mid December.

11/10/12 Update for E 156th and Beulah Park

No work for the weekend but come Monday expect to see the contractor placing straw waddle along the northern side of the construction site.  These straw filled socks are placed along the ground where the fence will be erected to help in limiting any sediment that may exit the construction limits.

You may have also saw some surveyor's laths (wood sticks) with blue tape placed around the site.  These are preliminary locations of the fencing that will soon be installed around the site.  Please note that these locations are only a rough layout and will be adjusted to accommodated the site restrictions and the contractors needs.

Work will continue at the intersection of East 156th and Lakeshore and last through mid December.

Please keep in mind the that sidewalk is still closed on the west side of E 156th due to the ongoing activities withing the fenced in area but will be replaced in the future.

11/9/12 Update for E 156th and Beulah Park

Friday will see less activity along E156th as the majority of the utility line relocation was completed, the road patched and materials moved to the intersection of the Lakeshore and E156th for additional utility line relocation to take place next week.  Our contractor will continue to work in the fenced in area along East 156 on Friday (please note that the sidewalk in this area along the west side of the street is currently closed until the concrete is replaced in the near future) having only limited construction traffic on E156th itself.

You will notice an increase in activity at the project location in the upcoming days and weeks as the area is prepped for construction.

Up Close and Personal, 200 Feet Underground

When complete, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's Euclid Creek Tunnel will be 24 feet in diameter, more than three miles long, and capable of storing 60.5 million gallons of combined sewage at a time.

Back in September, we led a group of local politicians and TV media into the Euclid Creek Tunnel to check out our massive tunnel boring machine, nicknamed Mackenzie, as it began this 18,000-foot journey 200 feet below ground.

Enjoy some footage we shot during the visit.

More information about Project Clean Lake -- the Sewer District's program to drastically reduce the amount of combined sewage entering local waterways -- is available at www.neorsd.org.
